A woman has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after she was trapped in her car following a head-on collision in Scarborough this afternoon.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free the woman, in her 40s, from the wreckage of her Ford Fiesta and a Mazda 2 driver — a man in his 30s.

Police blocked off parts of West Coast Highway as emergency services tried to free the pair.
